History

CIRCA LATE 1700's

Nestled near the historic Antietam battlefield and the Appalachian Trail, Willowood Washington has roots that stretch back over two centuries.

Settled by German immigrants Joel and Catherine Schlosser in the early 19th century, the property remained with the Schlosser family for nearly 140 years. Generations of the Schlosser family lived, worked, and grew here, weaving a rich tapestry of history into the landscape. Joel’s brother, David, was also a prominent figure, serving as Boonsboro’s mayor in the late 1800s.

The farm’s proximity to Antietam Creek made “Schlosser’s Fording,” a crossing point near the property, the hub of local activity. Over time, the farm evolved, reflecting the changing eras—from horse-drawn plows to modern renovations. In 1973, after over a century, the property passed from the Schlosser family, marking a new chapter in its storied existence.

MODERN DAY

BLENDING PAST, PRESENT & THE PROMISE OF TOMORROW

Subsequent owners have carefully restored and updated the property, incorporating original materials like reclaimed wood from the attic into the dining room floors. Each addition pays homage to the farm’s past while embracing the present.
